As Banned Books Week 2023 draws to a close, the Night Crew and I would like to stress that we wholeheartedly support the writers and readers who stand up and speak out against the many book bans that are currently taking place in this country. We believe that stories and the knowledge / ideas / perspectives therein should be available to all. And while every parent has a right to manage what information their child gets exposed to, and when, no one has the right to prevent others from exploring that information on their own. Freedom is dependent on choice, and choice is dependent on knowledge, and knowledge is dependent on information…and information is more often than not dependent on books. And any country that calls itself “free” absolutely cannot knowingly and willingly prevent its citizens from accessing them.
