I am currently out of the office for the weekend at a Tango festival…and am therefore not very much in a “work” mindset (though I have been brainstorming and scribbling in my notebook in my spare moments). So, I figured now is as good a time as any for a WIP update.
I have just finished a last round of self-edits for my novel. I read through it twice over the last few weeks, mainly with the goal of cutting even more unnecessary filler words in the process. In fact, I ended up bringing my word count from an outrageous 169,000+ words down to 165,000ish words (which is still outrageous, but I have yet to hear from my beta readers about any scenes that can afford to be cut, so… *shrugs shoulders helplessly*)
So what is the next step, you ask? Well, once I’m back from my weekend break I will be diligently searching for a professional editor who hopefully won’t break the bank, and who could possibly provide a last smidgen of developmental editing on the side of some proofreading…
Wish me luck!
And while the manuscript is in the editor’s hands, I will most likely be working on the sequel, as well as some smaller side projects. But more than that, I will be bringing my focus to the next segment of the journey: preparing for publication!
It’s an exhausting point to be at, but I am happy and grateful and looking forward to what comes next!
Cheers!
C.M.
