From my own personal experience, I cannot stress this writing tip enough. I don’t care how good your memory is: if you think of something, write it down. I don’t care how small or simple the idea seems at first glance: write it down. Ideas fly through our minds so quickly and furiously that if we don’t latch right onto them and hold on tight, they are liable to disappear. Time and again I’ve told myself, “This is such a great idea; I’ll remember it,” only to be utterly disappointed an hour later.
Many of my ideas come to me while I’m lying awake at night, which is why I used to keep a notebook beneath my pillow. Nowadays, we have enough gadgets and gizmos right by our bedside that can take notes just as easily as pen and paper. But the real trick is still taking the initiative.
Keep a small notebook in your pocket, or install a note-taking app on your phone; keep a writing journal in your backpack, under your pillow, even in specific spots around the house, if need be.
Ideas come from all over the place; make sure you are prepared to take them down.
